3D TRANSISTORS FROM INTEL

"In recent times all  processor manufacturers seem to rattle with a speed as never before!!"
Inel gives the throttle a twist by announcing its new 3d-transistors and is hoping to take a remarkable lead in this race.

What is a 3d-transistor?
The 3d-transistor is actually a tri-gate transistor which has a single gate stacked on top two vertical gates unlike the conventional planar transistors having single gates. The tri-gate architecture allows electrons three times more area to travel. It also minimizes the off-state leakage current reducing the idle state power requirement and enhances the current in on-state. This make it highly efficient in terms of power and density and because of its compactness it favors higher transistor density.

Intel aims to employ these transistors in its 22nm Evy Bridge family of CPUs. Intel claims that these processors would be 37% efficient in terms of performance with reduced power consumption and low voltage requirements.
Intel is the largest supplier of processors for Laptops and PCs but it never got going with the mobiles and tablets. With its latest achievement it aims to establish itself in the mobile market as well.
The company looks desperate to use this invention to propel itself to the peak in market of mobile processors too and has announced to bring processors based on these transistors by next year, but this seems to be a all different track. Intel's rivals like Qualcomm, Nvedia, Samsung, etc. are the dominant players here. They have already engineered some monsters and products using them are already in market. Also they are working at a great pace to make them even more powerful and efficient. Nvedia has promised to bring processors 8-12 times more powerful than their current dual-core Tegra2 processors and Qualcomm is on the same road too.
Moreover mobile and tablet SOC requires powerful GPUs as well, CPUs alone can't make the cut and Intel should be aware of it.
So journey for Intel is not going to be easy for sure but its better to wait and see than predict!!
